Do You Have Reading Vision Problems?

    Many people experience difficulty reading after the age of 40. If you vision has deteriorated and you are tired of the hassles of reading glasses Dr. Fichman might have a solution for you!;

    Cataract Surgery

Concerned about his patients’ comfort, Dr. Fichman invented the revolutionary Quick Sight surgical technique which uses eye drops to freeze the eye instead of traditional anesthetic needles behind the eye. He also invented a special diamond blade, the Fichman Microtome, to make an incision less than 1/4". The result from these breakthroughs is that cataract removal is done at Fichman Eye Center without subjecting the patient to needles, patches, stitches and no hospital stay.

    What is a Cataract?

Some 66 percent of all people over the age of 60 male and female alike, commonly get cataracts. Many people do not realize cataracts are the leading cause of blindness. Cataracts occur when the eye’s lens becomes hardened and clouds. It’s all a natural part of the aging process. The cloudiness eventually does restrict vision.

    Symptoms of Cataracts

Most people find cataracts develop slowly over the years. Common symptoms include:

    • Difficulty in reading
    • Difficulty with glare, and
    • Difficulty with driving, especially at night

If you have a cataract, you and the doctor will discuss the surgery and YOU will decide whether to have the cataract surgically removed. Interestingly, cataract surgery is an elective procedure, which most people decide to have because the cataracts interfere with their daily life or work.

    Quick Sight™ Cataract Surgery

Concerned about his patients and the amount of pain inflicted during cataract surgery, Dr. Fichman invented the revolutionary "Quick Sight"* technique which uses eye drops to freeze the eye instead of the traditional needle behind the eye. He also invented a special diamond blade, the Fichman Microtome, to make an incision less than 1/4" that requires no sutures through which an intraocular lens is inserted combining Dr. Fichman’s innovations with modern phacoemulsification (the use of high frequency sound waves to break apart the clouded lens) presents you with a state-of-the-art surgery.

*Quick Sight is a registered trademark of Richard A. Fichman, M.D.

    • No painful needles behind the eye.
    • No eye patch is needed.
    • Walk out of surgery center seeing clearly.
    • It is an outpatient procedure.
    • You have no post-surgery restrictions.
    • You can bend and lift the same day.
    • Your eye heals faster.
    • Complications are reduced.
    • There is no illness due to anesthesia.
    • You get your new glasses quickly (if glasses are needed).

    Implants & the YAG Laser

The small incision intraocular lens implant represents the latest advancement in cataract treatment. The intraocular lens implant is only one-third the diameter of a dime. Before the incision it is folded to fit through the smallest incision possible (one-quarter inch).

For a limited number of patients, the clear membrane left after surgery may become cloudy. The YAG laser opens this membrane easily and painlessly. It is one of the greatest advances in post-cataract treatment.
