Acrysof ReSTOR
For almost every person over the age of 40, cataracts can impose serious vision problems. A cataract occurs in the lens of the eye, and prevents light from entering the eye correctly, causing vision to be distorted or blurred.
Cataracts develop in nearly everyone, but they occur more often in people with diabetes, and the only way to treat them is with cataract surgery. Although people can live with some cataracts if they are not that bad, if the cataracts become worse, they can impede your vision significantly.
A cataract cannot be treated with exercise, diet, or lasers, and it is not a film that covers the eye that can be removed. The most effective way to treat cataracts is to remove the natural lens of the eye and replace it with a lens that is not cloudy called an Intraocular Lens (IOL).
In the past, cataract surgery used Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) that caused you to lose the ability to accommodate. Accommodating is the term used to describe the way you eyes focus on images at different distances.
Older forms of cataract surgery forced patients to choose a lens that would be focused for either near or far distances. Now, however, AcrySof has developed an IOL that always patients to retain their ability to accommodate, eliminating the need for glasses or contact after cataract surgery.
The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is the solution many cataract sufferers have been looking for. Now, patients can see clearly, using the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL, nearly 80% of patients that had the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL implanted during cataract surgery, said they no longer use glasses or contacts for any kind of activity.
During cataract surgery with AcrySof ReSTOR IOLs, the cataract surgeon will numb the eye using a topical anesthetic. The cataract surgeon will then make a very small incision in the cornea of the eye. The natural lens and the cataract will then be broken up and removed.
Once the cataract and the lens have been removed, the cataract surgeon will replaced the lens with the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL. After the surgery, the cataract surgeon will want to examine the eye within 24 hours to evaluate the condition and placement of the AcrySof ReSTOR lens.
Most AcrySof ReSTOR patients can see well enough to return to normal activities the day after surgery. If you have questions about cataracts, cataract surgery, or correcting your cataracts with the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL, contact one of the cataract surgeons at Fichman Eye Care. During your initial consultation, a cataract surgeon will evaluate your eyes to determine if AcrySof ReSTOR IOLs are right for you.
